The good and the bad – A reflection on 2017

  • Setting up investment goals and systematically keeping money into low cost index fund accounts.
  • Visualise a date and goal for early retirement
  • Launched my blog
  • Did my first anchoring for lead climbing
  • Managed to finish 8 books during the year

The bad

If you can survive the hospital, you can survive everything else

Spoiler alert: This is not a hospital bashing article.

Hospitals.

The real place that taught me so much on acceptance. It taught me that I am no special snowflake. It taught me that everyone else’s lives are also important. It also taught me that if everyone is giving it a fight, why would someone else expect their fight to be more brutal than the others’?

Jazz music to curl up and read a book to..

I stumbled upon this when I was searching for nice jazz music which are not too experimental up to the point that it disrupts my thoughts when I read, and not too boring that it drives me straight to the dreamland, like the elevator jazz. So here it is.

Bebop, Swing and All that Jazz

I tried to find the bio of the musician, but I have no idea what part he plays in the composition and execution of the songs. It just says that he’s a ” multi-instrumentalist Australian musician fluent in free style, smooth, swing, bossa nova and funk fusion jazz genres.” (http://www.lewisluong.com/)

So does that mean he’s the one playing all the instruments in the album? Like the piano, sax, and drums? Was he using a synthesizer? No idea. If he was in a live band I should be able to find some live jazz gigs that his band has performed. But nope. Never seen one before. Anyway it is good stuff. Some alternative to all that Chrissy songs. Enjoy!

Insomnia: My good ol’ get-work-done-odd-hours pal

I am wide awake again.

This happened when I had increased dosage of prednisone and sleeping two hours earlier like how it was when I first had lupus approximately two years ago. Instead of wasting time watching silly videos in bed, I figure maybe I should just write about how this could actually be a good thing.

史琳的狼疮故事 – 如果她能快乐地继续生活下去,我能有什么借口悲观

(This is the Chinese version of the article, please find the English version under Inspirational story: Lupus and dialysis did not beat Sheryn* down )

Continue reading “史琳的狼疮故事 – 如果她能快乐地继续生活下去,我能有什么借口悲观”

How to deal with a lupus comeback – An experiment

After being quiet for almost 2 years, my lupus friend has made a comeback.

I had my quarterly checkup last week and my urine protein creatinine ratio has increased beyond the normal range. For the past two weeks I have also been feeling mild joint pain at the fingers, wrist, abdomen, arms, neck, ankle and sole. Not all parts painful at the same time, but an indication of lupus activity. My immune system is starting to act up again!  Continue reading “How to deal with a lupus comeback – An experiment”
